Punxsutawney Phil Predict 6 More Weeks Of Winter This Groundhog Day

Since the 1993 movie Groundhog Day, Punxsutawney Phil became a national celebrity and famous weather forecaster. Thay day beloved day by grown men in top hats who speak “Groundhogese” is finally here, the traditional Groundhog day annual prediction has been made this morning -or hasn’t?- see with your own eyes.


Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his burrow at Gobblers Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, on Thursday and saw his shadow, which, according to legend, means six more weeks of winter – a prognostication AccuWeather meteorologists largely agree with.

The spring season will officially begin on March 20.

The yearly celebration of Groundhog Day it’s an event coordinated by the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club.
Punxsutawney has been celebrating Groundhog Day since 1886, a nod to its early German settlers. Club members said there’s only been one Phil the entire time – thanks to an “elixir of life” he drinks each year – and that’s the groundhog’s weather predictions have proven to be “100 percent correct.”
